The GFSSC web site has crashed, hard. The web host had a raid5 array fail, and had to quickly transfer accounts to a new server, and then restore from backup. Due to the convoluted permissions structure I put in place to make PHPWebsite work on this host, our website didn't survive the move. While the database is recoverable, the website code itself needed to be re-built nearly from scratch.
Ideally, it would be restored from back up, but it looks like the same directory permissions issue that caused it to fail the migration to the new server also prevented me getting a clean backup.
I opened a trouble ticket with the web hosting company, to see if they can restore from their back up, but no joy. It looks like their backup scripts don't run as root.
Sunday, June 20th. Received a reply from our web host. Here is an excerpt:
Support Desk has major issues we are working on.
.... and the server you were on crashed... I will see if we can pull anything from it to help the site... but chances are (like our support desk), it's gone. I am sorry ... but I will do everything I can. Our Raid system failed... which is highly unheard of!
The structure wasn't too dificult to rebuild using the backup directory, but all template customizations and photographs will have to be done manually. I should have all the photographs backed up on my hard disk, but not in any kind of order (unless you consider "Random" to be nice).
